Obituary of David Lee Pointer

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David L. Pointer, 67, of Niles, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 2, 2022.

On December 7, 1957, David was born in Niles, Michigan, to the late Wert and Myra (McPhail) Pointer.

Born and raised in Niles, David was able to dig his roots deep into the ground where he stayed his entire life. After graduating high school, he was able to pursue higher education and get his certifications to become a mechanic, work that was always a challenge that he was up for. He spent the majority of his life servicing the community’s vehicles and was able to establish meaningful connections with every customer he served. He was always friendly and happy to see people, his smile and sense of humor allowed others to feel at ease with his presence.

On January 17, 1979, David married the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, Mary Price. Their union brought them two loving daughters, Cassondra and Cassidie, and as time passed their family extended with three grandchildren. He was an excellent father but was as loving and supportive as a grandpa gets. Quality time meant the world to him and he loved nothing more than being able to spend time with his family, regardless of what it was. He enjoyed taking the grandkids to every fair and festival that he had time for. The local apple festival was always one of his favorites to attend. As a sports fan, he was also a major supporter of his grandkids’ sports teams, making it to every game he could. He liked basketball and riding his bicycle, but where his true competitive spirit would come out was during his softball games. He played for a few different teams over the years and always brought positive energy to the teams he played for. Outside of sports he thoroughly enjoyed any kind of craftsmanship. He was an excellent carpenter and could fix just about anything, especially if it had an engine. David was a hero to his family and a role model for many members of his community, his presence will be missed but his memory will live on in all those he loved.

Preceding David in death are his parents, Wert and Myra (McPhail) Pointer; as well as his grandparents and other extended family members.

Those surviving him include his best friend and wife, Mary (Price) Pointer; both his daughters, Cassondra Pointer and Cassidie (Tyler) Pointer-Prenkert; three grandchildren, Dakotah McCuan, L.J. Allen, and Myra Petlick; his brother, Andy (Laura) Pointer; as well as many extended family members and close friends.
