June 13, 1926 – September 21, 2022

 

Gerald Stanley Mitchell, 96, of Niles, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

 

Stan was born on June 13, 1926, to the late Roy and Ida (Fletcher) Mitchell in Niles, Michigan.

 

After graduating from Niles High School, Stan went on to join the United States Army where he was stationed in Italy.  He later attended Western Michigan University where he earned his degree in Electronics and returned to Niles to open Mitchell TV Services.  Stan owned and operated the business for 40 years until he retired in 1988.  He wed Barbara Brockway at a ceremony in Niles. Together Stan and Barb had two sons. He was an avid fisherman and loved going to the casino as well.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ida Mitchell; wife, Barbara Mitchell; son, Steven Mitchell; and brother, Richard (Agnes) Mitchell.

 

Stan is survived by his son, Gregory (Vickie) Mitchell of Niles; grandchildren, Victoria (Erik) Hansen of Rockford, Michigan, Daniel Mitchell of Niles, and Abby (Nikko) Burnell of East Lansing; great-grandchildren, Addelyn, Hendrik, and Harlowe; daughter-in-law, Sandy Mitchell of Niles; and many extended family members and close friends.

 

A memorial graveside service to celebrate Stan’s life will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m.

 

Stan was an animal lover and the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Stan’s memory to your local animal shelter.
