John VanGundy, 74, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Lakeland Hospital in Niles, Michigan.

 

He was born on April 1, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Dorman and Retha (Hartman) VanGundy.

 

After graduating from Niles High School John went on to obtain a certificate in floral design. He owned and operated The Bouquet Flower Shop for Many years. He took great pride in his designs, his gardens, and especially his herb garden. He enjoyed the watching the Chicago Cubs. John considered himself a great connoisseur of fine wines.  

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother, James.

 

John is survived by his sister, Karen Dillenbeck of Grand Rapids, Michigan; niece Arrin (Brian) Brisbane of Grand Rapids; great-nephew, Cooper; and long-time friend, Jim Hunsberger of Wakarusa, Indiana.

 

 

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will be honoring his life privately.

 

Memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to the Fernwood Botanical Garden.
