Obituary of Jimmy Ray Gerald

Jimmy R. Gerald, 62, of Niles, peacefully passed away at home on August 18, 2022.

On April 29, 1960, Jimmy was born in Elkhart, Indiana, to the late Jimmy and Mary (Schaw) Gerald.

It didn’t take much to put a smile on Jimmy’s face as he was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed good food, being outdoors, and meaningful conversation. In his younger days, one could find him out fishing or fixing things in his own unique way. He was excellent at finding the best ways to repair something on a budget and was a skill he took pride in. The best way to connect with him throughout the years was to bring up NASCAR or his grandkids. He loved sharing stories and talking about the current events in his life with anybody who would give him quality time. Jimmy’s presence will be missed in the Michiana community and his memory will be carried forward by those who knew and loved him.

Jimmy is preceded in death by both of his parents, Jimmy M. Gerald and Mary E. (Schaw) Gerald, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Jimmy is survived by his sons, James Gerald and Scott Gerald; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mike Winter and Vicky Gerald, both of Elkhart; half-sister, Kathy Bennett; and dear friends and caretakers, Nora Wray and Ed Barhydt.

Following Jimmy’s final wishes, he will be cremated and returned to the care of his family.
