Obituary of John G Mosier
John G Mosier, 64, of Dowagiac, unexpectedly passed away at home on August 22, 2022.
On August 7, 1958, John was born in Dowagiac to the late Dave and Millie (Gleason) Mosier.
John was a man’s man, he enjoyed the outdoors, sports, a great cookout, and above all, his family. He grew up with a tight-knit family of five. He was a local to the Dowagiac area his entire life outside of his time spent serving in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating and being discharged from the military, John found work as a machinist. Over the years he learned all kinds of handy work and enjoyed repairing, putting together, and tinkering with things in his spare time. Outside of work he was a man of simple pleasures; watching his Chicago sports teams, fishing, reading, and good food were what he enjoyed on a daily basis. He was known for cooking up the best baked beans and his occasional turkey roast. He enjoyed the company of his friends and family. He spent most of his time with the love of his life, Chris Yawkey, and did what he could to spend time with his kids and four grandchildren. He was a supportive dad and a loving grandpa. He also had a soft spot in his heart for animals, especially his dogs. John had a charismatic personality and a contagious laugh that will carry on in the memories of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Millie (Gleason) Mosier; as well as many other friends and family members over the years.
He is survived by his best friend and partner of 36 years, Chris Yawkey; his children, Sara (Andy) Howard, Jaron (Brooke) Mosier, and Michael (Janet) Oisten; his siblings, Sue Weaver and Doug Mosier; four grandchildren, David Oisten, Simon Oisten, John Mosier, Jack Mosier; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
A gathering in John’s memory will take place at the Moose Lodge in Dowagiac on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family invites all who knew him to come and share memories and fellowship.
