Obituary of Sue Miston

Sue Miston, 91, of Dowagiac, passed away in St. Joseph, Michigan on August 22, 2022.

On January 18, 1931, Sue was born in Gary, Indiana, to the late Benjamin and Ethel (Whitehead) Phairas.

Sue was a happy-go-lucky kind of person who loved to live life to the fullest. She was charismatic, and loving, and always enjoyed a good life while surrounded by her friends and family. It wasn’t uncommon for her to find good conversation with a total stranger. After graduating high school Sue married the man of her dreams, Robert Miston, in San Diego, California. At the time Robert was serving in the United States Navy and the couple had an experience of a lifetime. They loved each other until the very end when Robert passed away in 2002. Sue was always a working woman but what she took the most pride in was working for Watervliet Public Schools as a bus driver. She had a special place in her heart for all the kids that she brought to school. The people who filled her heart the most were her children and grandchildren. She was able to live to be a great-great-grandmother which is something she held dear to her heart. Sue was a blessing to those who knew her and the bright-eyed smile she always had will be remembered and cherished.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Robert Miston, and granddaughter, Amy Sue.

Sue is survived by her children, Robert (Brenda) Miston, of Dowagiac, MI; Roslyn (Dale) Hickmott, of Hartford, MI; Roxane (Greg) Danneffel, of Plainwell, MI; and Ruthann (Tom) Lindt, of Dowagiac, MI; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; one stepsister, Edy Harding, and 2 nieces; and many other friends and loved ones.

Sue’s memory will forever be in the hearts of the people whose lives she touched.

In keeping with the family's wishes, Sue will be cremated and returned to her family to be near her loved ones.
