Donald E. Shaner, 91, of Niles, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Buchanan Meadows, following an illness.

 

He was born on April 7, 1931 in Cassopolis, Michigan to the late Melvin and Hazel M. (Mendenhall) Shaner.

 

On July 1, 1955 Donald married Karen Lee Cooper at a ceremony in South Bend, Indiana. He worked as a bread-man for most of his career. He had a great love of fishing and spent countless days with his father-in-law and others on the St. Joseph River. He looked forward to time with family and was gifted at building muzzleloaders.

 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Shaner and Hazel Belick and his beloved wife Karen in 2018.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Douglas) Brown of Junction City, Kansas and Deborah (William) Matthews of South Bend, Indiana; six grandchildren, Joshua (Miranda), Jason (Ashley), Summer (Jeremy), Rachel, Adam and Kristy; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Persephone, Maisy and Jack; and a sister, Barbara (Don) Tiemens of Illinois.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
