Obituary of Peggy Louise Rutter

Peggy Louise Rutter, 82, of Benton Harbor, peacefully passed away at Riveridge Rehabilitation & Health Care on August 4, 2022.

She was born September 20, 1939, to the late Charles and Ellen Renfro in Salem, Illinois.

Peggy married Edwin Rutter on February 15, 1958. She devoted her life to teaching her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren how to cook, sew, and to take care of themselves. If you wanted to learn how to fold a fitted sheet Peggy was your person. Peggy didn't have a mean bone in her body, she was selfless and always put others before herself. She had a passion for cooking and was a very good baker. Peggy loved to go shopping with her grandchildren and loved it even more when she got to go shopping with her great-grandchildren. Peggy loved to color and loved to pick fresh berries from their yard. Her kind, comforting presence will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband Edwin Rutter; her parents, Charles and Ellen Renfro; siblings, Patricia Harris, Betty Hoffner, Raymond Renfro, Charles Renfro, and Jean Renfro.

Peggy is survived by her two daughters Christine and (Terry) Stockton and Carol and (John) Fairbanks; five grandchildren, Crystal (Billy) Wolgensinger, Kaycee (Jeffry) Billhimer, Johnny Fairbanks Jr, Edwin Fairbanks, and Bobby Fairbanks; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members and friends.

A combined memorial service for Peggy and Edwin will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Friday, September 2, 2022. A public visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with services beginning at 1:00.
