Virginia M. (Ferneding) Lugger, 94, of Niles, beloved wife of Robert Clayton Lugger, Mother of Melody (Nelson) and Phillip Lugger, Grandmother to Ian and Graham Nelson and to Jonathan, Jeffery and Sara Lugger and Great-Grandmother to Anthony and Alexander Nelson and to Caitrin, Adelaide and Marin Lugger, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Riveridge Manor, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up in the Price Hill where she became a hairdresser at age 14. She loved that work and was a licensed cosmetologist until her late 60's. Early in her marriage to Robert they moved to Niles where her husband worked for the railroad. Upon Robert becoming employed at Notre Dame, they lived in South Bend. Upon retirement they returned to Niles. Virginia was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and very active in craft fundraising until her health declined. Virginia loved children and would light-up when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would visit. In that spirit, donations in lieu of flowers or other memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Make-a-Wish Foundation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church at 3 N. 19th Street in Niles with Rev. Thomas King, CSC officiating. Friends and family may gather at Brown Funeral Home from Monday on 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A private interment will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Indiana.
