Obituary of Robert Albert Harkey

Robert A. Harkey, 87, Benton Harbor, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

He was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on May 24, 1935 to the late Albert and Elsie (Janda) Harkey.

He was a 1953 graduate of Watervliet High School. Robert went to work for Watervliet Paper Mill right after high school.  He enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served our country for two years.

After returning home he married his sweetheart, Nancy Hope, on June 16, 1962. He returned to the Watervliet Paper Mill, where he worked for thirty-eight years.

Robert was a “jack of all trades”, he loved being able to fix or build anything he put his mind to. He was generous with his time and abilities, helping anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Nancy Harkey of Benton Harbor; son, William Harkey of Dowagiac; daughter, Betty (David) Plitt of Coloma; three grandchildren, Jessica, Becka, Derek; a brother Harold Harkey of Watervliet; along with two nieces.

He will be laid to rest at North Shore Memory Garden in Coloma. A memorial service will be held on at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 7th , 2022, at The Chapel, 4250 Washington Ave in St Joseph Michigan, 49085.
