Obituary of Aaron Young
Aaron N. Young was born September 28,1978, at Pawating Hospital Niles, Mi to Colette (Rick) Pointer and William (Kim) Young. Aaron is survived by his parents, Grandmother Leona Young, sister Amber Young, and nephew Dallas Lopez. Aaron is also survived by Step Grandmother Vivian Pointer, 3 stepbrothers, 3 stepsisters and 10 cousins. Preceding him in death is his Grandfather Jerome Young, Grandparents Bonnie and Bugs Calder, Aunts Jerri Sayer, Theresa Young, and Rosie Lewandowski, and Uncle Michael Lewandowski.
Aaron attended the Niles School System and was influenced by many teachers and instructional aides, but especially 6th grade teacher, Ellen Baruta. She helped influence his love of football, specifically for the University of Michigan. Ms. Baruta took Aaron to his FIRST MI/ND football game. During his high school years, Aaron had an instructional aide, Cindy Kinney, who helped him navigate the school hallways, school antics, and teenage dramas. Cindy became a close friend to Aaron. Later Aaron volunteered to be the football team’s statistician and earned a Niles varsity letter.
During his youth Aaron looked forward to summers when he attended MDA Camp. Aaron started attending camp when he was 8, continuing into young adulthood. In later years his cousin Toby joined Aaron at camp as his attendant, the two being a dynamic duo.
When Aaron graduated from Niles in 1997, his fellow classmates gave him a standing ovation. After graduation, Aaron enrolled at SMC, graduating in 2001. In 2002, Utah hosted the Winter Olympic and Aaron was selected to carry a torch for a segment of the journey across America; his leg being in South Bend, Indiana. Unknown to each other, his Aunt Theresa and cousin Marci both nominated Aaron for this honor.
Aaron started attending college at CMU in 2001. Due to confusion at registration Aaron had some initial difficulty with dorm room placement. This initiated a meeting between Aaron and Bryon Beutler. After this meeting Aaron and Bryon were friends and apartment mates for 20 years. Through their many years of friendship both Aaron and Bryon have fought multiple battles for the rights of the disabled.
Aaron graduated from CMU in 2007 with a BA in Broadcasting. While Aaron could not find a job in this field, he never stopped trying to further his dreams and goals. He moved on to explore comedy, performing at Laugh Fest venues, and stand-up comedy nights at Stella’s in Grand Rapids. During the pandemic, Aaron turned back to sports and created “ROLLIN IN SPORTS’ podcasts.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that have made Aaron’s life more fulfilling by helping him keep his independence. Many went beyond the job “duties” and became great friends.
