Obituary of Oliver Wayne Scott

Oliver Wayne Scott, 97, of Lawton, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Oliver was born on June 3, 1925, to the late Ray and Leorita (Giffels) Scott in East Leroy, Michigan.  As one of nine boys growing up in the Scott household Oliver was always busy.  In 1943 Oliver graduated from high school and went on to attend Western Michigan University where he obtained is Bachelor’s Degree.  On July 23, 1950 Oliver wed his one true love, Phyllis Elaine Havenga. 

Oliver was an insurance agent for Rifenberg Insurance Agency for many years and continued his career with TCU Insurance until he retired at the age of 85. Oliver was not one to sit idle though. He loved working with his hands.  He was an avid gardener and woodworker extraordinaire.   Oliver one time made a grandfather clock for his son which then turned into 13 full size grandfather clocks over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Scott in 2007; and brothers, Ronald, Harry, Robert, Elbridge, Eugene, Roy, and Art Scott.

Oliver is survived by his children, Kathy (Kenneth) Lull of Decatur and Kenneth (Della) Scott of Lansing; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Scott of Lansing; and many extended family members and close friends.

Oliver’s family will be hosting a graveside service at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be made in Oliver’s name to Centrica Care Navigators who provided hospice care for Oliver and his family.
