Obituary of Deanna M. Elrod

Deanna M. Elrod, 84, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at The Center for Hospice in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Deanna was born on July 23, 1937, to the late Raymond and Helen (Godfrey) Marks in Niles, Michigan.

On June 9, 1956, she wed Donald E. Elrod at a ceremony in Angola, Indiana, they shared sixty-three years of marriage before his passing in 2020. Deanna was an adventurous soul, she traveled to Europe, explored Paris, had seen forty-nine of the fifty states and fell in love with the beautiful state of Tennessee. Alaska was the only one left on her bucket list to see. Over the years, Deanna and Don were avid supporters of the boys and girls basketball teams at Grace Church in Granger, Indiana.

Deanna was a wonderful home-maker, she loved cooking for and spending time with her family, especially during the holiday seasons, which was her favorite time of the year. Deanna was most proud of her goulash recipe, as well as her fritter and salmon patties.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Marks and Helen Davis; her husband, Donald Elrod; her son, Chris; and her only sister, Dora J. Holmes.

Deanna is survived by her brother- in-laws, James (Doris) Elrod, Robert Holmes; her church son, Aaron Tillberry and his four sons; along with several nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home, 521 E. Main Street in Niles, visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Donald, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
