Obituary of Sally Katherine Luth

Sally K. Luth, 85, of Dowagiac passed away at Lakeland Spectrum Hospital in Niles, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Sally was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on December 7, 1936, to the late Vincent and Doris (Swalheim) Ward She attended St, Mary’s Academy in South Bend for a few years, and went on to graduate from Niles High School in 1955. Sally furthered her education, attending LMC in Benton Harbor. On February 18, 1956, she wed Robert L. Luth at a ceremony in Benton Harbor, and to that union four children were born. She worked as the office manager for her husband’s construction company for several years, and later went to work for Rimes Department store in St Joseph, where took great pride in fitting woman for breast prosthesis, she later went on to becomes the buyer for the lingerie department. After retiring and moving to Dowagiac, she again went to work, she worked in the food service department at Berrien General Hospital in Berrien Center. Sally was very involved with everything her children had going on, often volunteering with school functions, and many after school activities. In her free time, she donated her time to the hospital, and in several areas at St Mark Catholic Church, along with doing some traveling and gardening. She enjoyed singing, at one time she belonged to the Sweet Adeline’s, and the Sing-A-Ling, singing groups. She was a long time member of the Lighthouse Ladies Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; siblings, Nancy Ward and Michael Ward; and her infant son David Luth. Sally is survived by her children, Debra (Jeff Campbell) Tillman of Niles; Daniel Luth of Schoolcraft; Don Luth of Dowagiac; granddaughter, Vanessa (Andrew) Leigh of Kennebunk, Maine; and three great-granddaughters. Memorial contributions in her memory may be directed to the American Cancer Society, or to the Berrien/Cass County relay for life. A memorial mass will be celebrated on July 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church at 219 S. State Street in Niles with Father Christian Johnson of the parish officiating.
