Obituary of Jerome Wilson Jr.

Jerome Wilson Jr., 48, of South Bend, suddenly passed away at home the first week in May of 2022. On October 5, 1973, Jerome was born to his very loving mother, Ethelyn C. Donnell (Harris), and his father Jerome Wilson Sr. in Chicago Illinois. Throughout his whole life, Jerome was a man who minded his own business and took care of his own. He was a single child who was brought up by a loving mother who enjoyed teaching him everything she knew. While growing up he spent many hours in the kitchen with his mom learning how to cook some of the best soul food out there. Nobody made fried chicken and mac n cheese like Jerome did. “Barbeque Bobby” was a name his friends and family gave him because if he was hosting a cookout, everybody knew they were in for a good meal and even better conversation. Jerome joined the United States Navy as soon as he was allowed to sign the papers and was able to experience everything he had hoped for while in the service. Traveling the world is something most people dream of, Jerome’s military service granted him that dream and gave him an experience of a lifetime. Towards the end of his time as a sailor, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, something that he took a lot of pride in and always enjoyed sharing stories about. Jerome always had an eye for detail and was popular among his battle buddies because the details they would miss, he would catch and make sure nobody got in trouble. He was also popular because he could cook better than anyone else and if you were friends with him, he would make sure you were fed. What Jerome took more pride in than his military service was his two sons, Jawan and Jaedon. From the time they were born, he loved them with everything he had in his heart. He connected with them over video games, listening to music, and watching sports, and was one of their biggest supporters whenever they needed a little advice. He enjoyed talking to the boys about history, especially if it was war-related. Jerome was definitely a lone wolf but he had a heart for people. He worked as a CNA for many years and took pride in his ability to take care of those who couldn’t always take care of themselves. He knew how to make his residents laugh and connected with them in a way that made them more comfortable. Jerome was a good man who loved his family and his friends and the memories he shared with those he loved will be cherished forever. Jerome is preceded in death by only his father, Jerome Wilson Sr., and extended family members. Those surviving him are his mother, Ethelyn C. Donnell (Harris); the woman he spent most of his life with and the mother of his sons, Jennie “Neicey” Pitts-Wilson; and his boys, Jawan Phillip Wilson, and Jaedon Kendrell Wilson. There will be no public service for Jerome as the family has decided to celebrate his life in private. Memorial contributions may be made out to Ms. Ethelyn Donnell, Jerome’s mother.
