Obituary of Alvin Sisco
Please share a memory of Alvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alvin L. Sisco, 85, of Niles passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022, in the comfort of his own home.
On April 21, 1937, Alvin was born in Success, Arkansas, to the late Alvin L. Sisco Sr. and Vada (Lilly) Sisco.
From the very start of his life, Alvin was a go-getter, do-it-yourself kind of man who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. The Sisco family moved from Arkansas to Indiana when Alvin was young and that’s where he decided to spread his roots as his life went on. At an early age, he started working at a local vegetable farm to make a little money while going to high school. After graduating, Alvin had his eyes set on joining the United States Army. Some of the skills he acquired while in the service helped him find a career as a mechanic once honorably discharged. Alvin was a wealth of knowledge when it came to engines. He was one that could break down every part of an engine and put it back together just as easy. He would often be found in his garage tinkering or working on projects, it was his way of decompressing. On November 3, 1973, Alvin married the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, Ellen “Carol” (Starr) Burns. Alvin never had any biological children but what he did have were two very loving step-children, Jean and Donald. He took the kids in as his own and did his very best to lead by example and be the best supportive father figure he could be. He wasn’t always a man of many words but when he was talking about something he was passionate about he could talk for hours. The time Alvin spent with the kids would often involve teaching about vehicles and life lessons, and would always explain things in a way that would make sense to whoever was listening. When someone was talking to him, he could make them feel like they were the only person in the room. He valued what others had to say, especially when it was the kids talking. What Alvin liked to do the most was spend time with family, he was always close to his brothers and his sister growing up, and as he got older he would try and spend as much time as he could with his wife and kids. He enjoyed snowmobiling and classic cars, and he loved to fish; especially if he was fishing in Bradenton, Florida, his favorite place to visit. Alvin was a good man who did what he could to set a great example of what it meant to be a hard-working man that supported his family in every way possible. He will be sorely missed by his friends, family, and loved ones.
Preceding Alvin in death is both of his parents, Alvin and Vada (Lilly) Sisco.
He is survived by his life partner and wife, Ellen “Carol” (Burns) Sisco; the children he helped raise, Jean A. (Burns) Wordinger, and Donald K. Burns; his siblings, Beatrice Minich, Harold (Ruth) Sisco, and Charles (Rosie) Sisco; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Buchanan Christian Church on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the service with lunch provided at 12:00 p.m.
