Obituary of Stephen Lee Mahar

Stephen Lee Mahar, 52, of Niles, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born on July 2, 1969, in Niles Michigan, to Jack and Carol (Tuttle) Mahar. After graduating from Niles High School in 1988, Stephen went on to work for many years at Tyler’s Refrigeration. Stephen was an avid Michigan fan; it was not uncommon to see him with some sort of Michigan apparel on. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors, especially by the campfire. Stephen spent as much time as he could doing his favorite things outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, or searching for the ever elusive moral mushroom. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack E. Mahar. Stephen is survived by his mother, Carol True of Niles; children, Hannah and Colton Mahar both of Niles; siblings, Jack (Dawn) Mahar of Niles, Andrew (Crissy) Mahar of Niles, Michael (Jennifer) Mahar of Niles; niece and nephews, Krysta and Michael Cole of Mishawaka, Chelsea and Budda Hunt of Mishawaka, Tyler Mahar of Mishawaka, McKenzie and Gavin Mahar of Niles; great-nephew Caleb; friends that were more like family, Steve Ralston and Dawn Calkins both of Niles as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 521 E. Main St, Niles. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM until the time of service. In keeping with celebrating Stephen’s life, the family has requested everyone to dress casually and feel free to wear University of Michigan clothing.
