Obituary of Charles Joseph Tuttle

Charles “Chuck” Tuttle, 71, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles on Friday, March 25, 2022. Chuck was born on February 7, 1951, to the late William E. Sr. and Shirley B. (Slater) Tuttle in South Bend, Indiana. After graduating from Niles High School, class of 1969, Chuck went on to serve proudly in the United States Navy. He was a very successful and intelligent individual. He retired from Bendix after fifteen years of service. Chuck was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, both in Pokagon #136 and Buchanan #68 F. & A.M. and the Pokagon United Methodist Church Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family, and had a knack for fixing things and spent countless hours volunteering at his church as well as the Old Rugged Cross Church. On February 14, 1976 he wed Shirley J. Broyles at a ceremony that took place in Gaston, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cheryl Kern, and his beloved wife Shirley. Chuck is survived by his brother, William Jr. (Bonnie) Tuttle of Buchanan; his sister, Carol True of Niles; six nephews, Jack Edward (Dawn) Mahar, Stephen Mahar, William III (Tee) Tuttle, Andy (Crissy) Mahar, Clifford (Annette) Tuttle and Michael (Jennifer) Mahar, all of Niles; His family also wishes to thank his friends, Randy Rice and Jennifer Marquis for their care of Chuck over the past several years. He will also be missed by many extended family members and close friends. Funeral services will be held at Brown Funeral Home in Niles on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Twelve O’clock Noon, with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior. An interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Brown Funeral Home.
