Obituary of Merlyn Lee Freemyer

Merlyn Lee Freemyer, 61, of Baroda, peacefully passed away at home on February 15, 2022. On October 22, 1960, Merlyn was born to the late William and Emma (Fuller) Freemyer in Berrien Center, Michigan. Merlyn, otherwise known as “Lee” was an honest, hardworking, good-hearted man. At the drop of a hat, he was wherever his help was needed for both his friends and family. Growing up with both his parents and his nine other siblings one could say that family was a very influential role in his life. Working hard and doing a quality job were two things that he valued and respected. With a sixth-grade education, Lee was still able to find success in the things he was passionate about. He was a man that could fix just about anything. He enjoyed carpentry, machine work, and anything that burned fuel. There weren’t very many skilled trades that Merlyn didn’t at least know the basics of. Even during the years of his bad health, one could almost never find him just sitting around. He was constantly on the move, planning something, or just staying busy. Lazy was not ever a word to describe Lee. A couple of other things he did for pleasure included hitting the slot machines at the casino, hunting, fishing, and spending every second he could with his grandkids. There was a small part of him that still enjoyed being a kid which made him the fun grandpa. His family members can tell you that the one thing he stressed to those close to him is how important work ethic is. Everything he had he worked for and took a lot of pride in working for the things he wanted in life. Lee was very proud, and a little stubborn, but was still loved to the fullest extent. He had a special interest in the beauty of eagles, some of that had to do with how much he loved his country, and part of it was what an eagle represented; courage and strength. He was a true patriot at heart. He loved nothing more than watching his Dallas Cowboys beat up any team they played, especially the Panthers. Although he wasn’t a huge fan of the Panthers football team, he did enjoy a nice visit to North Carolina to see one of his sons and grandkids. Lee had his ups and downs in life but still made the best out of what he had. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family, and loved ones. Preceding Merlyn in death are his parents, William and Emma Freemyer; and three of his nine siblings, Howard Miney, William Freemyer Jr., and Vera Watson. He is survived by his two sons, Merlyn “Lee Jr.” Freemyer and Jason Freemyer; six of his siblings, Mary Floyd, Alma Janney, Milly Pullins, Maggie Johnson, Edith Rose, and Ricky Freemyer; his grandchildren, Nicole Singletary, Austin Freemyer, Nathan Freemyer, Makayla Freemyer, Jason Freemyer, and Elani Freemyer, all of whom he loved dearly. At this time there will be no public services for Merlyn per the family’s wishes. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
