Obituary of Leroy McNeary
Please share a memory of Leroy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leroy McNeary wanted to be at The Meeting, on Monday morning February 14, 2022, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor he marched home with the other saints to be at The Meeting.
Leroy was born to the late LeRoy and Irealia (Martin) McNeary on March 6, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois.
Leroy grew up in rural Marcellus, a place he loved and often recited fond memories of. As a teenager, the family moved to Edwardsburg, Michigan where he graduated from Edwardsburg High School. Leroy worked several factory jobs until he decided to go into law enforcement, he joined the Cass County Sheriff’s Department in 1974, attended Police Academy and remained there going through the ranks until he retired in 2002. Leroy was very social and civic-minded, he has served on several boards, most recently on the Council on Aging and Jefferson Township, later served as Jefferson Township Clerk for over 16 years. Leroy loved being with his friends and family. He loved his family unconditionally and never tired of spending time with his grandkids. He loved flying, corvettes, and motorcycles, but only Harley Davidson. Leroy was a member of the Blue Knights, a motorcycle club for police and ex-police officers. Leroy loved Arizona and each year waited anxiously for February so he could return there and get out of the cold. Leroy was a good husband, father and friend and would not hesitate to help anyone who was in need. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Leroy accepted Christ at an early age at The House of Prayer Church, where he was later ordained as a Deacon. He loved singing in the church choir and helping to lead Devotion wherever he visited. One of his favorite songs was Grace and Mercy, your Grace and Mercy brought me through, I’m living this moment because of You, I want to thank You and praise You too, your Grace and Mercy brought me through.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Irealia.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years, Dolores McNeary of Edwardsburg, Michigan; children, Christine (Eric) Williams of Elkhart, Indiana, Bryan McNeary of Granger, Indiana, Shannon Underwood of Frisco, Texas, and Sharon Underwood of Niles, Michigan; grandchildren, Anthony McNeary and Erica Williams; great-grandchildren, Antrell, Londyn, and Jazaria; and his sister Diane White of Georgia.
