Obituary of George Hunt
Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Hunt, 82, of Niles, passed away at home in Niles on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
George was born on August 31, 1939, to the late John and Selena (Maxson) Hunt in Cassopolis, Michigan. George left high school in the 10th grade to enlist in the United States Marines. After returning stateside he wed his one true love, Eva Thomas, at a ceremony in Niles. George worked as a truck driver for many years and as an adult, he decided to further his education and went back to school proudly receiving his diploma.
George’s father worked on the railroad and this started a lifelong love of trains for George. He often would get on the train in Cassopolis, ride it to Three Rivers, and then hop right back on the next train to ride it home to Cassopolis. He was excellent at building model trains and had a barn full on display.
More than anything George was a devoted family man; he was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He never met a stranger and would make friends anywhere and everywhere he went.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Selena Hunt and his grandson, Tyler Hunt.
George is survived by his wife, Eva Hunt; children, Renee` (Darryl) Voss of Cicero, Indiana, Scott (Diane) Hunt of Niles, and Michael (Karen) Hunt of Plainwell; grandchildren, Morgan (Ryan Martin) Phillips of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kylie (Estephan) Renteria of South Bend, Austin Phillips of Cicero, Indiana, Jessica Voss of Mishawaka, Tori (Josh) Jorgensen of Niles, Davis (Sarah) Hunt of Muskegon, and Mitchell Hunt of Plainwell; great-grandchildren, Gabrial, Sophia, and Kyleigh; a sister; and many extended family members and close friends.
