Obituary of Laura Lavern Wright

Laura L. Wright, 88, of Niles, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Chalet of Niles, following an illness. She was born on June 22, 1933, to the late Fred T. and Hulda (Hoskins) Spain in Potomac, Illinois. Her family eventually moved to Niles, Michigan. On May 2, 1953, she married Wallace Eugene Wright at a ceremony in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. To that union six children were born, she raised a lot more children than that. Mom, Grandma, GG, Aunt Laverne, Laura, she answered to all. She was very active in her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Laura loved volunteering at her children’s schools, she was always on the go, she had to be helping someone, or she was taking or picking people up. In her free time you would often find her gardening, it was often said that she had two green thumbs. She was active in several programs at the YMCA. Laura was a huge Notre Dame fan, and enjoyed her time working at the Dujarie House with the Brothers and Fathers of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace E, Wright; siblings, Beverly Birczak, Carrie Stucker, Florence Shafer, Hattie Quick, Fran Varga, Mary Graham, Frank, Ron and Fred Spain. Laura is survived by her children; Terry Wright, Lue Ann Wright, Jeri (Larry) Steelman, Hugh A. (Jeanne) Wright, Brent T. (Lori) Wright, David (Quinn) Wright, all of Niles; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings; Martha Bryant and Julia Marrow; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 521 E. Main St. Niles, burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Friend and family will gather for a time of visitation from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday, January 22, 2022, also at Brown Funeral Home.
