Obituary of Sue Marie Reniger

Sue Reniger, 75, of Battle Creek, passed away after a short battle with cancer, on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Glenn Arbor Hospice in Battle Creek with her husband by her side. She was born in Battle Creek on August 16, 1946, where she was raised by her parents, Milton and Lois (Brigham) Maxson. Shortly after graduating from Lakeview High School, class of 1964, Sue went on to further her education where she received her degree to become an LPN (licensed practical nurse). Sue wed Ronald D. Reniger at a ceremony in Battle Creek on November 20, 1965. Throughout her career as a nurse, Sue touched thousands of lives. She started her career in Battle Creek working for both Dr. Donald Nelson and Dr. Clifford Nelson, where she cultivated friendships that spanned her lifetime. She went on to work at Lakeview General Hospital until its closing. In 1985, Ron, Sue and their sons moved to Havelock, North Carolina where she worked at the Coastal Children’s Clinic. When Sue and her family moved back to Michigan, Sue then worked for Med Services for over fifteen years before retiring, May of 2012. Sue was a member of the 64 Club, and the Battle Creek Friends Church where she volunteered in their outreach for women program. She was a gifted photographer and took several college classes, learning to take and develop photos in a variety of ways. After retiring, her and Ron enjoyed m any adventures and began traveling; enjoying several years touring the United States in their R.V., visiting many national parks and other interesting attractions. The couple also devoted many years taking their grandchildren on special vacations as well. Sue always took a great interest to whatever was going on in her family and friends’ lives, never missing a graduation, birthday, wedding or any other event possible. She always had the ability to light up a room with her smile and fill hearts with laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Cathy Maxson, and a granddaughter, Shelbi Clements. Sue is survived by her husband, Ron Reniger of Battle Creek; children, Timothy (Angee) Reniger of Battle Creek and Thomas Reniger of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; Christopher Reniger, Matthew (Anna) Reniger, Dylan Reniger, Brooklyn Reniger, Morgan Milan, Mason Mahoney and Jacob Clements; a great-grand-daughter, Natalie; her brothers, Gordon Maxson of Battle Creek, Steve Maxson of Charlotte, Michigan; brother-in-law, Terry (Joanne) Reniger of Battle Creek; best friend, Linda (Ray) Cleavinger of Battle Creek and many extended family members and close friends. She will also be greatly missed by her dachshunds, Mike and Molly. Funeral services to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at Battle Creek Friends Church, 1305 Olive Street in Battle Creek on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with a time of visitation beginning two hours prior. Sue will be laid to rest at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Sue’s name may do so to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
