Obituary of Cory Damone Mayes

Cory Damone Mayes, 50, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He was born to the union of Lloyd Mayes and Betty Ward Wakes in South Bend, Indiana on February 1st, 1971. Cory earned his high school equivalency and spent time studying culinary arts at Ivy Tech Community College. Cory loved spending time with his children. He also enjoyed cooking, bowling, and golfing. He followed all types of sports and he especially enjoyed cheering on the Michigan Wolverines and the Chicago Cubs. In 2002, Cory married Sara Penter and to that union was born Cortland, Corise, Corinthian, and Corly’Ja Mayes. Cory and Sara shared 15 years together before parting as friends. Those left to mourn and carry on his legacy are his mother, Betty Ward Wakes; his brother, Mitchell (Deanna) Ward; his children, Cory Mayes Jr., Cortland Mayes, Corise Mayes, Corinthian Mayes, & Corly’Ja Mayes; grandchildren, Cormoni, Cory III, Knyla, Uniqua, Cortland Jr, Bryson, and Ca’Myla; nephews, Juawan and Rishon; aunts, Denise Palmer (Indianapolis, IN) and Clara Ward (Washington, DC), Uncle, Kenny Palmer (South Bend, IN), Cousins, Michael Davidson (Atlanta, GA), Aaron and Clifton Quinn (South Bend, IN); God-Daughter, IlyAayna Terry; Special friend, NaNa Campbell, and a host of family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A public visitation will begin on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a service following directly after at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
