Obituary of Doris Petznick
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris M. Petznick, 94, of Coloma passed away, Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Caretel Inn of St. Joseph.
On a beautiful day, on September 26, 1927 in Paw Paw, Michigan, Doris was born to the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Lane) Poole.
After finishing school, Doris found great success with her attention to detail worked as a seamstress for many years, even opening and operating her own store, Dots, in St. Joseph, from 1980-1986. Before Doris met Erick she was a single parent, devoted to her children often times working three jobs. Her last job was at Auto Specialties where she had many close friends that she will be reunited with in Heaven. It was at Auto Specialties, which adjoined Whirlpool that Erick and she would wave at one another every morning. As he walked by he would spread his arms out, which was he way of saying “I LOVE YOU THIS MUCH”, Doris in return would throw him kisses. She married Erick Petznick on March 6, 1970 at a ceremony in Stevensville, Michigan. They enjoyed over 44 years of marriage, and after Erick took an early retirement from Whirlpool they enjoyed wintering in Avon Park, Florida for many years and traveling around the United States with grandchildren always in tow. Although she was sought after by many for her sewing skills, Doris’ passion was her grandchildren. It could very easily be said that her world revolved around them. When she couldn’t be with her grandchildren, she never sat idle. While in Avon Park, Florida she founded the very first quilting club and continued to be heavily involved with quilting clubs all around.
Doris loved spending time at the lake playing cards or Polka Dancing at the Dank with her sweetheart.
She is preceded by her beloved husband, Erick, her brothers, Warren Poole, Ralph Poole, and Clyde Poole, and her stepson, Kenny Petznick.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Linda (Terry) Pepple of Coloma, Janice (Bruce Blunier) Lamunion of Coloma, Larry Zizkovsky of Coloma, James Baney of Berrien Springs, step children, Steve (Brenda) Petznick of Stevensville, and Pat Cole of Oregon. Her eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren will miss her doting and spoiling that she seemed to have perfected over the years.
A memorial service to celebrate Doris will take place on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the North Shore Event Center, 2655 M-63 North, Benton Harbor, Michigan, with a time of visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Doris and Erick will be laid to rest together at Crystal Springs Cemetery.
