Obituary of Allen Kenneth Roberts

Allen K. Roberts Sr., 75, of Niles, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his residence, following a battle with cancer. He was born on December 20, 1936 to the late Ephie and Clara Belle (Draper) Roberts in Dowagiac, Michigan. He married the late Nancy Dewey and to that union was born four children. Some years after that marriage ended Allen married Linda Hamil who passed away. He was also preceded in death by Sylvia Kastner. Allen worked in the street department for the City of Niles over 34 years. He enjoyed singing, playing his drums and guitar and listening to country music. He was proud of his service, in the Navy, to his country. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles, the American Legion and the VFW. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda and then Sylvia, and a sister Judy Simpson. He is survived by four children; Allen Roberts Jr. of Mesquite, Texas, Willodean Roberts of Niles, Cheryl Roberts of Niles and Brian Roberts of Niles, eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers Phillip (Karen) Roberts of Ypsilanti and Tommy "Mush" (Janet Roberts) of Dowagiac, four sisters; Maxine (Kenny) Ownby of Dowagiac, Linda (Gene) Hedrick of Anaheim, California, Bonnie Loux of Cassopolis and Mary (Jim) Maxwell of Tennessee. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will follow at the Niles Eagles Lodge.
