Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David L. May, 77, of Byron Center, Michigan, peacefully passed away at Metro Hospital in Wyoming, Michigan on Monday, November 1, 2021. He was born Sunday, February 27, 1944 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Rev. Charles E. and Loris (Iman) May. David grew up in Battle Creek with his parents and his brother, Raymond. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, class of 1962. Shortly after graduating high school, David married the love of his life, Eva Cox at a ceremony on June 16, 1962 in Battle Creek. Most of his working career was spent as a supervisor for Ludington Pumped Storage (Consumers Energy). David always looked forward to time out on his boat and at the lake cottage. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and he didn’t mind driving to get to his destination or away from the Michigan winters. David drove across the United States with his motorhome and created many special memories with his family on all the adventures. When he was on vacation, it wouldn’t have surprised anyone to see him cruising around on his beloved golf cart. He was a talented singer, performing at hundreds of weddings and he was personal favorite at gatherings where karaoke was present. He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers, fan and could always be heard cheering them on or “encouraging” them to play with a little more heart. Family was paramount in David’s life; his favorite memories were spent with those he loved. Later in life, David was blessed with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Although David excelled in many things, he certainly nailed being a Papa. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Rev. Charles and Loris (Iman) May; and his brother, Raymond May. He is survived by his wife, Eva May; his two sons, David (Colleen) May of Florida, and Donnie (Carissa) May of Byron Center, Michigan; three grandchildren, Brittni (Matthew) Skubick of McComb, Michigan, Logan May of Byron Center, Michigan, and Mackenna May of Byron Center, Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Hadlee Skubick and many other family members and friends. A public visitation will be held for David on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Calvary Apostolic Church in Battle Creek with funeral ceremonies beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday, November 5, 2021. The service will be officiated by his nephew, Rev. Keith Rodriguez. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Apostolic Church, 511 Morgan Road, Battle Creek, Michigan 49037. Condolences, photos, and memories may be left for the family at www.BrownFuneralHomeNiles.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, of Niles. One of his most memorable qualities was his happy-go-lucky attitude. His ability to make people smile and feel special would help him connect with anybody he ran in to. He embraced those who chose to be a part of his life, and he chose to make a special connection with anyone who gave him the time of day. His warm spirit and kind heart will be dearly missed by his all who knew him.
