Obituary of Stephen Harrison Yates

Stephen H. Yates, 63, of Battle Creek, passed away at Bronson Hospital on October 19th, 2021. He was born on November 9th, 1957, to the late Benjamin and Myrtle (Cole) Yates in Albion, Michigan. Shortly after graduating high school, Stephen joined the United States Army, an experience that carried with him for the rest of his life. After his honorable discharge he tried his hand in the autobody and repair industry, eventually becoming self employed and running his own business. Stephen was an independent, hard-working individual who had no issues staying late to make sure his customers were happy. Throughout the years of him working in Battle Creek, he was able to make many friends and acquaintances. Stephen will be dearly missed by his family and all those he served. Stephen is preceded in death by both of his parents, Benjamin and Myrtle Yates; and one of his sisters, Shirley Yates. He is survived by his three children, Stephen M. (Bonnie) Yates, Angela (Daniel) Ormsby and Eric S. Yates; three of his siblings, Gloria (Wesley) Hummel, Ricky Yates, and Dawn (Jay) Robertson; three step-children, Joseph D. Pennison, Rodney F. Cheek, Kimberly S. Cheek; nineteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 4:30PM on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Calvary Apostolic Church, 511 Morgan Rd. Battle Creek, Michigan, with visitation beginning at 3:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, at 1:30PM on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
