Obituary of Anna May Stratton

Anna May Stratton, age 90, a longtime Niles resident, passed away July 28, 2012, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born in Niles, Michigan, to Floyd and Elizabeth (Gregg) Snyder. A 1939 graduate of Niles High School, she was fondly known as "Little Bit" due to her small size. On November 5, 1941, she married Thornton Dale Stratton, a Michigan State trooper stationed in Niles. Over the next 25 years, T.D.'s post assignments included three other Michigan cities: Jonesville, Munising, and Blissfield. During this time the raised 3 children. She was known as a marvelous homemaker and cook. After the death of her husband in 1989, "Little Bit" lived for a time in Maumee, Ohio; Lansing, Michigan; and Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1995 she moved back to her beloved Niles where she lived until 2009. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. During the following years she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Kevin Rost, in Paw Paw, Michigan and at Park Village Pines in Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her husband T.D., her son Dennis Dale, and her sister Patricia. She is survived by her children: Patrick (Margaret) Stratton of Howell, Michigan, Sara (Kevin) Rost of Paw Paw, Michigan, and Timothy (Julia) Stratton of Maumee, Ohio, grandchildren: Todd (Carolyn) Stratton, Brian (Lori) Stratton, Laura (Gabriel) Kuschel, Kevin M. (Cathy) Rost, Melissa Goodrich, Caitlyn Stratton, and Iain Stratton; great-grandchildren: Marisa, Nadia, Sophia, and Jack Stratton: Daphney, Tiffany, Peter, and Bethany Kuschel; Corissa, Kaila, and Kami Rost; and Jacob and Travis Goodrich. In keeping with Anna's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in her memory may send it to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, 5473 Croyden Ave. Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009.
