Obituary of Thomas Neil McCartney
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas N. McCartney, 71, of Dowagiac passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021.
In South Bend, Indiana on June 24, 1950 Robert and Elaine (Sinders) McCartney welcomed the arrival of their son.
After graduating from high school Thomas was drafted into the United States Army where he courageously served during the Vietnam War. Upon being discharged, Thomas came home and started his family and began his career in the trucking industry.
Thomas, was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life. In his younger years he played softball and was part of a league for some time. He also enjoyed his time outdoors fishing or hunting, and although dropping a line in the water or sitting outdoors on a crisp morning made him happy, they couldn’t compare to the complete joy he felt when he was with his daughter, Regan. Thomas was described by his daughter as extremely caring and reliable. Thomas gave his undivided attention to her whenever she was around and described her father as a man who was always present in her life who made sure that Regan understood she could count on her father. That joy multiplied when his granddaughter Brianna came into his life and he became a grandpa.
He was preceded in passing by his father, Robert McCartney.
Surviving him are his daughter, Regan (Matthew) Avery of Three Rivers, his granddaughter, Brianna Avery also of Three Rivers, brothers, Robert (Chris) McCartney, Jr. of Edwardsburg, Dennis (Sharon) McCartney of Dowagiac, his mother Elaine Wallace and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Tom’s name.
In accordance with Thomas’ wishes cremation has taken place and his family will be remembering Thomas privately.
