Obituary of Vivian Ann Newgent

Vivian A, Newgent, 82, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following an illness. She was born on June 16, 1939 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Clifford C. and Martha (Potts) Bowlin. She met the love of her life, Carl E. Newgent, while attending Green Township High School after she ran into him, literally, in the hallway. The couple graduated in 1957 and married that same year on April 6th. A homemaker most of her life, Vivian enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her family. In 1974 she lost her arm and never let that slow her down, teaching ceramics at Forever Learning for nearly thirty years. She was a faithful member of New Journey United Methodist Church, formerly Wesley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; two brothers, Bill and Tom Bowlin and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Gill. Vivian is survived by her children, Mike Newgent of Ocala, Florida, Chuck (Sheila) Newgent of Fort Worth, Texas, Gayle Bredow and Richard (Mary) Newgent of Cassopolis; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and a sister, Judy Gushwa of Osceola, Indiana. A celebration of Vivian’s life will be held at New Journey United Methodist Church at 302 Cedar Street in Niles on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to New Journey UMC.
