Obituary of Jackie Bloomer

Jackie Lee Bloomer, 81, of New England, WV, passed away peacefully at Ascension Borgess-Lee Hospital in Dowagiac, MI on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Jack was born on September 17, 1939, to the late William and Margaret (Greenburg) Bloomer in New England, West Virginia. Jack graduated with the Class of 1957 from Parkersburg High School. Shortly after graduating, Jack joined the United States Air Force and served four years. He was an aircraft mechanic and worked on KC-97 Strato-freighters, an aircraft designed to refuel other aircraft mid-flight. He was a wealth of knowledge and possessed a strong mechanical aptitude, which served him well throughout his life. He was known for his ability to fix anything and was a valued resource of information. He could quote poetry and loved music. He enjoyed playing cards, checkers, solving Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Jack took pride in being a millwright for Kaiser Aluminum, from which he retired in 2000. His experience growing up on a small family farm taught him the importance of a strong work ethic, which he instilled in all four of his children. Other interests of his included working on cars, hunting, fishing and watching sports on TV. He was strong-willed, stubborn, and typically a cranky, opinionated cuss, but Jack will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret. Jack is survived by his 4 children, Vic Bloomer of Dowagiac, MI, Rod Bloomer of Niles, MI, Lynn Anthony Bunner of Elizabeth, WV, and Sally Bloomer Nichols of Charlotte, NC, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, June Wigal of New England, WV, and Betty Cavanaugh of Lebanon, MO.
