Obituary of John Edward Chew

John E. Chew, 81, of Niles, passed away suddenly, of natural causes, on Monday, August 30, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on November 22, 1939 in St. Joseph County, Indiana to the late Charles Sr. and Wilma (Johnson) Chew.
John proudly served in the U. S. Air Force from January 6, 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962. He worked for many years at Conn-Selmer, Inc. in Elkhart, Indiana and was currently employed at Magnum Security Services, Inc. in South Bend. John was an Eagle Scout and truly reflected the characteristics of hard work, dedication and service to others. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for a number of years. He was a past member of the American Legion Post 365 in Edwardsburg, Michigan and a member of Vineyard Church in Mishawaka, Indiana; His faith in Jesus Christ was very important to him.
John looked forward to quiet times fishing, mushroom hunting, photography, gardening, wood working, baking and cooking. He also enjoyed square dancing, where he met his wife, Regina; they were married at a ceremony in Niles, Michigan on May 15, 1999.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edward Chew and a brother, Robert Chew.
John is survived by his wife, Regina Chew; his children, Joseph Chew of Edwardsburg, Lynea (Alan) Sieting of Niles and Pam (Reiner) Wiedenmannott of Katy, Texas; step-children, Alex (Krista) Arendt of Granger, Indiana, Andy (Christy) Arendt of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Joshua (Amy) Arendt of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Lewis (Kim) Norton of Raleigh, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren, Aaron, Brandon, Kyle, Saumbera, Brekelle, Tristan, Camron, Payton, Brendan, Colton, Eden, Myles and Jack; two brothers, Charles (Judy) Chew of Edwardsburg and Marvin “Jim” Chew of Three Rivers; a sister, Barbara (Garold) Dull of Elkhart, Indiana and a sister-in-law, Beth Chew of Edwardsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles with a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. The services will conclude with Full Military Honors by the U. S. Air Force and the Edwardsburg American Legion. A private interment will be held on Wednesday at Adamsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made in John’s memory to Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars or Michiana Right to Life.
John will be remembered for his deep devotion to his faith, family and country.
