Obituary of Joseph Ashby

Joseph "Joe" William Ashby, 64, of Dowagiac, Michigan passed away at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac on Sunday, August 5, 2012. Joe was born on January 23, 1948 to the late Glen and Helen (Haefler) Ashby in Dowagiac. He was one of 6 boys in the Ashby household. After graduating from Dowagiac Union High School in 1966 Joe joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country. Joe wed Joyce "Charlee" Ashby and together they had two children. Though they divorced Joe and Charlee remained friends. After his time in the military Joe began to work at Jessup door and continued to work there until his retirement 31 years later. Joseph enjoyed baking and was always making cookies for friends, family and co-workers; he even made several wedding cakes for family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Glenn Richard Ashby and Jerry Ashby. Joe is survived by his children Jeffery Ashby of San Diego, California and Angelique (Jim Haynes) Raab of Dowagiac, Michigan, two grandchildren, one great grandson and brothers Richard "PJ" Ashby of Dowagiac, Lewis "Pepe" Ashby and Michael Ashby of Dowagiac. A memorial service to honor Joe's life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior.
