Obituary of Sue Ellen Dahl

Sue Ellen (Herschelman) Dahl, born August 26, 1939, passed away June 17, 2021, at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Edith (Nesbit) Herschelman. She was a graduate of Hapeville High School, Hapeville, Georgia, and attended college at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, and Belmont Abbey College, North Carolina. On June 21, 1965, she married James C. Dahl. They were married for 31 years until his death on December 6, 1996. Of this union, they had a son, Richard A. Dahl (Jennifer), with two granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley Dahl, and a daughter, Judi Dahl Ross (Al Clark), who survive. Sue is also survived by three brothers, Frederick Herschelman III, Robert Herschelman, and John William Herschelman. Throughout her life, Sue lived on the West Coast, in the Southeast, and finally the North. She found enjoyment in every region but especially enjoyed San Jose, California, and then being able to live in Florida for three years. She loved her family dearly, and was a very caring person, always willing to help out someone in need. She adored her animals, especially three dogs in her life, Jina, Fluffy, and Bandit, had numerous cats, and in later years she enjoyed feeding the woodland creatures, delighting in seeing all the different kinds of four-legged and winged creatures who came to the yard. Per her wishes, cremation will be performed and no services will be held. The family will scatter her ashes in a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Dr, South Bend, IN 46614, or else feed the birds, especially in the winter.
