Obituary of Larry Warren Krieger

Larry W. Krieger, 80, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Lakeland Hospital in St Joseph. He was born on June 24, 1940, in Benton Harbor Michigan, to the late Clarence and Lucille (Harris) Krieger. Soon after graduating from high school, he enlisted into the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country in active duty for four years and in the reserves for two years. On July 8, 1966, he married the former Rose Rector in Jackson, Michigan. They eventually moved to Niles, where they raised their family, and Larry continued to work as a Trooper for the Michigan State Police Department; from which he retired in 1991. Larry was determined to always stay busy and be active; you would often find him riding his bicycle around the neighborhood, dancing, windsurfing, or collecting rocks and Indian beads at Lake Michigan. He enjoyed traveling to Virginia Beach and The Bahamas annually to visit the ocean. His daily pastime was taking care of his yard, he was very proud of the way he kept his pool spotless. He was always eager to help family, friends, and neighbors in a multitude of ways. Larry often pretended to be a grumpy old man, but he had a big heart in reality and was always the first one to lavish attention on his grandchildren, especially the little ones. He was the self-designated teacher of swimming, bike riding, and roller skating to the very end. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Deborah Mead. Larry is survived by his wife, Rose Krieger of Niles; granddaughter, Tonya Miller of Niles; two great-grandchildren, Nicole (Joshua Steinbach) of Niles; Charles Hoch of Niles; six great-grandchildren, Arianna, Izabella, Alexis, Brayden, Wyatt, and Sutton; sister, Janice Pollitt of Niles; and a niece, Crystal Johnson of Niles. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 521 E. Main St in Niles. Burial will follow at Mission Hills with military honors. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday evening, June 13, 2021, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM also at the funeral home.
