With great sadness, Julio C Caicedo, Sr., 90, of St Joseph, Michigan, passed away on May 1, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home. Julio was born in La Cumbre, Colombia in 1930. He was the oldest of five siblings, of which one brother still lives in Idaho. He graduated with a doctorate in Civil Engineering from Universidad del Cauca in Popayan, Colombia. In his early years he helped build needed infrastructure in the rural areas of the country. He met and married Gloria Blum in 1955 in Popayan, Colombia and together they had three children. He decided to immigrate the family to the USA in 1964 and moved to Evansville, Indiana where he worked with Whirlpool Corporation. He then transferred to the Whirlpool Corporate Headquarters in St Joseph, Michigan in 1969 where he worked with a small team of seven to develop Whirlpool’s International Division. He worked as an expat for Whirlpool in Sao Paulo, Brazil until his retirement in 1989. He was an avid reader of books and had a passion for knowledge which he loved to impart to his family. He adored taking the family on long camping trips throughout the Eastern US and Canada, as well as trips to Europe. After retirement, he and Gloria travelled every corner of the world! He was a kind, generous and loving husband, and dedicated father & grandfather. Julio leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Gloria from St Joseph, MI, and his three children; Julio (Maria Saavedra) Caicedo Jr., Patricia Caicedo and Jimena (Richard) Ziegert. He also leaves behind his two granddaughters, Kellie (Nic) Ruhl and Gabriela “Gigi” Grannell.
