Obituary of Janice Elaine Morris

Janice Elaine Morris, age 79, of Niles passed away Sunday, April 11th with her loving family by her side. Jan was born June 28th, 1941 to Wesley and Viola Smith of Niles. She grew up in Niles and graduated from Niles High School in 1957. She fondly remembered working at Veni’s Sweet Shop in her teens. She then attended beauty school and owned her own beauty shop in Niles. In 1959 she married Charles Irwin, that marriage produced 2 surviving children, Beth (Allan) VanLeeuwen of Niles; and Andrew (Holly) Irwin of Granger, Indiana; also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Amanda VanLeeuwen of Niles, and Victoria and Olivia Orr of Granger. In 2009 she met and married Willard “Bill” Morris of Pontiac. Bill preceded her in death in 2009. She missed him greatly and thought of him the rest of her days. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Esther Christian of West Virginia and Mary Anne “Tink” Williams of Michigan, and several extended family members. Jan also leaves behind her beloved fur-babies- pup, Teddy who was always by her side and often under her feet, Bear kitty who was never far behind, and Shasha kitty who only made herself known once you were convinced that she had forever disappeared. Jan was a devout lover of Jesus and loved to sing praise music. She attended the Niles First Assembly of God church for many years. Her faith brought her through many tough times. She often watched shows such as The 700 Club, Monk, Pitbulls, and Parolees. She was often on Facebook unapologetically making known her conservative viewpoints, and devotion to God. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her but are comforted in the knowledge that we will someday be together again in God’s glory. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, Apr 16, 2021, at Michiana Christian Embassy 1922 E. Main Street, Niles. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery will be private. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, our gathering is limited, the State of Michigan requires all in attendance to follow all guidelines including, social distancing, mandatory mask, and hand sanitizing.
