Arleen J. Lower, 89, of Battle Creek, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Reflections Memory Care. She was born on April 28, 1931 to the late Virgil and Lillian (Shugars) Buck in Parchment, Michigan. Arleen graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, class of 1949. She worked for Mass Mutual Insurance during her junior year in high school and stayed for about thirty-five years. On June 26, 1949 Arleen married Joseph M. Lower at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. He was her million dollar baby that she met at the 5 & 10 music store. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary along with their family in Hawaii in 1999. Arleen was an accomplished musician and could play anything from classical, jazz or gospel. She attended The Potter’s House Church, when able. Arleen valued her time spent with family, especially when everyone could get away to go to their family cottage on Pleasant Lake in Delton, together. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Joseph and a son, David Mark Lower. Arleen is survived by her son Terry Joseph (Beth) Lower of Ceresco, Michigan, grandchildren Derek Joseph Lower of Marshall, Michigan and Travis Mark (Elyse) Lower of Okemos, Michigan; her great-grandchildren, Liam, Connor and Emilia Lower; two sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Dove of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; and Jackie (James) Beadle of Augusta, Michigan; as well as a host of countless relatives and lives she has touched, Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Arleen’s family will gather privately for services at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made in Arleen’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
