Obituary of Edward Frank Jallits

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward F. Jallits, 75, of Buchanan, formerly of Elmhurst, IL, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 with his loving wife by his side. Edward was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 28, 1946, to the late Frank and Marian (Fleischman) Jallits. After graduating from High School, he attended Elgin Community College. Ed then went on to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. On September 18, 1971 Ed wed Carol L. Grimm at a ceremony in Wheaton, Illinois. Ed retired from NTN Ball Bearing Manufacturing Worldwide as a foreman after thirty-two years. Following a successful career in manufacturing, Ed became an in-home caregiver, where he had an exceptional ability to know exactly what people needed. He loved helping people in any way he could. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora, serving as collector. Throughout his years of faith he served in other church capacities such as elder and trustee. Ed and Carol loved to spend time together gardening, and that extended to Ed serving the church that way as well. They also enjoyed many long train trips with Carol’s mother, Letitia and best friends, Carl and Lisa Bassett. They looked forward to their annual Door County trip with best friends Phil and Karen Reynertson and Phil’s sister, Mary. Ed took great enjoyment in history; showcasing his collection of yardlong World War I era photographs. Traveling to antique stores and flea markets and collecting historical memorabilia was another favorite activity, especially while on vacation. Ed and Carol loved to host barbecues for Memorial Day and 4th of July and making sure everyone’s favorites were included and one of his too, deviled eggs. One of Ed’s highlights in life was time spent with his grandchildren; teaching them the “old school” games like marbles and croquet, swimming and kayaking at Clear Lake and of course playing ice cream bingo! He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carolyn Strama. Ed is survived by his wife, Carol Jallits of Buchanan; their precious fur baby, Honey, his children, Katherine (James) Luck of Jacksonville, Illinois and Daniel (Holly) Jallits of Elburn, Illinois, a bonus daughter, Donna Jallits (Jen Grimes) of Nashville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Christine, Orion and Noah Higuet, Cleopatra and Legend Luck as well as many extended family members and close friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior. A committal service will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan where Full Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Buchanan American Legion Post 51. The services will be recorded and available to view on our website later that afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora 1733 W.
