Obituary
Obituary of Martin Jay Marvel
Please share a memory of Martin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Martin J. Marvel was born November 2, 1956, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to William and Phyllis (Steere) Marvel, who preceded him in death. Marty rode his Harley into heaven on February 12, 2021, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Marty had a life-long love for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson's. When he was 15, he brought his bike home in cardboard boxes. He put it together, it ran! He rode that bike for years. That wasn't the first bike he built from the ground up. He went to swap meets, traded, fixed, and bought bikes for nearly 50 years. He loved to find a deal - he called it 'junking'. He'd buy something, fix it, clean it up, use it, and sell it. He could repair just about anything! Hunting, fishing, spending time with friends and family, or working around his house brought him much happiness. He didn't like to sit still for very long. He attended Brandywine Schools.
He was a vagabond - loved to travel and see new sights, so being an over the road trucker was a perfect career choice for him. He and his wife, Debbie, started their own successful trucking business, MDMarvel Transportation. He traveled coast to coast for business and pleasure. It wasn't uncommon for him to show up to visit someone he hadn't seen for a long time. He was a true free spirit!
Marty was a giving man. If someone needed a hand, something repaired or just a friend, he was there ready to help. He had a huge heart. No one was a stranger to him. He could start a conversation with anyone about anything. Marty had friendships that lasted a lifetime.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory and share stories about him, his loving and devoted wife, Debbie (Lacher) Marvel, whom he married on December 27, 1994, in Las Vegas NV, his step-daughters, Tanya Boettcher and Christina (Darnell) Scott of Granger, Indiana; sister, Karen Marvel Leblang and his brother, Ricky (Janis) Marvel of South Bend, Indiana; nephews, Kody Marvel, Dylan Marvel of South Bend, Indiana, Ryan Leblang of Mishawaka, Indiana and niece, Shelley Johnstone, great-nieces, Delaney and Sidney Johnstone of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jacob (Shaleena) Smyth of Alabama, Jayla Horvath, Jayden Horvath both of Granger, Indiana; great-grandchildren Adrianna Smyth, Annesty Smyth, Kezlyn Smyth. Also left to cherish his memory are his aunts, Nancy Steere Williams of North Carolina, Sharon Steere of Niles, Michigan, and his uncle Jerry (Mary Jo) Steere of Minnesota and several cousins. We will miss him, terribly.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Marty may do so in his honor to Hospice Foundation located at 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior.
