Obituary of Alvina Ojeda Ruiz

Please share a memory of Alvina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alvina Ruiz, 90, of Sodus, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Born May 4, 1930, Alvina Ojeda Ruiz lived a long happy life which was guided by her faith in Jesus Christ. She was born to the late Frank and Rosa (Sasoada) Ojeda in Del Valle, Texas. In 1948 she wed her one true love, Leonard Ruiz at a ceremony in Austin, Texas. In 1965 Alvina and Leonard moved north for a better life for their family. Alvina was a hard worker but found her calling as a mother to her seven children. Alvina was an amazing, caring, and compassionate person who always pushed the boundaries of kindness. She was a gentle soul who was always cheerful and warm. Her heart was enormous and she had a profound love for family. These characteristics were always on full display to anyone who entered the glow of her orbit. She was truly a model of excellence. To many, Alvina was an angel long before she transitioned to the next phase in the cycle of life. Alvina’s family is proud and honored to have her DNA that will live on through the genes in her offspring. The Ruiz family can now begin to heal and fill the painful void felt in their hearts by Alvina’s loss with the knowledge that she has joined the Ancestors and is no longer experiencing pain and suffering. She will now be eternally at peace and comforted by those souls who transitioned before her. Alvina will always be a treasured jewel and her legacy will remain an enduring testament of a life well-lived. We light a million candles in her honor. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rosa Ojeda and two brothers, Frank and Ned Ojeda. Alvina is survived by her husband of 72 years, Leonard; their seven children, Linda Gomez of Sodus, Virginia (Robert) Phillips of Eau Claire, Velia (Hans) Koppenhoefer of St. Joseph, Angelina Ruiz of South Bend, Arnold Ruiz of Dowagiac, Martin (Lorena) Ruiz of Eau Claire, Jenero Ruiz of Niles; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Irene Saldana of Austin, Texas and Ploto Ojeda of Lockhart, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 2:30 p.m. with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior.
