Obituary of Arlene Ellen McCartney

Arlene E. McCartney, 83, of Dowagiac, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at her sister’s home in Clarkston, Michigan. She was born in Holland, Michigan on April 21, 1937, to the late Peter and Dena (VanDenBosch) Boerman. Arlene graduated from Decatur high school. On June 2, 1956, she married the love of her life Paul J. McCartney at the Hamilton Chapel in Decatur. Arlene assisted her husband for over twenty years, by keeping the books for his business, McCartney Heating and Cooling in Dowagiac. At a very young age, Arlene accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior; from that time on she truly lived a life pleasing unto him. She was the quintessential mom, grandmother, and friend. Many of her days consisted of caring for her family and home, whether it was sewing, gardening, or cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul J. McCartney, her siblings, Grace Hankins, Edward Boerman, Clara Campbell, and Nelson Boerman. Arlene is survived by her son, David (Brenda) McCartney of Dowagiac; daughter, Ellen (James) Baker of Surprise, Arizona; grand-daughters, Abby (Daniel) Garman, and Emily Baker; six great-grandchildren; siblings, LaVerne Boerman, Nancy (Peter) Caruso, Polly (Rick) Ruder, Joan (John) Barnhart; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, December 7, 2020, with a time of visitation one hour prior, at the Volinia Baptist Church, 19526 Marcellus Hwy, Decatur Michigan. Burial will follow at South Wayne Cemetery in Dowagiac.
