Sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. I was the Material Handling Engineer at Ford Dearborn Engine Plant from about 1989-1997. Jim used to call on me and sold me quite a few pieces of equipment through Motion Savers. My wife and I also went on at least one of Jim’s canoe trips in Michigan in the early 1990’s. Jim was a great friend. I don’t recall if he had a nickname for me, if he did it might have been ‘Eddie’ or ‘Haskell the Rascal’. Lol. He will be missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to JoAnn and the family. We were saddened to hear of Jim's passing but we rest assured that he is looking down on us all muttering, 'I hate kids!' :-)
I was privileged to be able to experience Jim in action on the Pine River Canoe trips for nearly the 40 years that they occurred. I still have the t-shirt that has Jim's image on it for the 2000 Pine River Float. I wore it to our last canoe trip in 2012.
I see Jim continuing to float down the River of Life with a grin on his face and a beer in his hand. Rest in peace, Jim.

Our condolences to JoAnn and family. We've talked a lot and have shared so many memories over the years. Dave and Jim were close friends since grade school and were like brothers. Jim was the older one but helped to keep Dave young. Guys canoe trips started on the Pine River then evolved to include Father Daughter and Son camping weekends and were a summer ritual. The family trip that we took to the UP is a memory from the 60's all the way up to birthday and wedding milestones in the current millennium. We had some great trips to Bon Aire and Mexico, some awesome times spent together. May these memories help ease all our sorrows.

My condolences to all of the family. We loved our "uncle" Jim and have great memories of growing up with all the kids and the Thompson clan may have contributed to his infamous "I hate kids" statements. We know how soft of a heart he truly had for children, offering to watch our little ones when Karen and I were at Lost Lake, so we could hike or fish a couple hours. Karen first met Jim on one of the Pine River canoe trips which was an early introduction to our extended family and friends. I know how important your friendship has been to my parents, but you were also an important uncle to all my siblings and myself as well. I was excited last fall to share a deer harvest with his used crossbow, he sold to me so I could keep my kids interested in the outdoors. I've tried to keep you both up to date as my mom and dad have dealt with health issues of their own. Finding the old Rustic '57 yearbook from St. Mary's of Redford, and sharing his picks with JoAnn and my parents, we could see such a resemblance of Frankie and Steve. I remember his big buck harvest at JDJ across a distant field including a bonus grouse. My warmest memories of Great Uncle Jim were with my kids and the family times together at Lost Lake over holiday weekends, esp the 4th of July, when we'd watch the parade from Fox road (in years we didn't walk in it). A legacy of fond recollections. You will be missed.

Our condolences to Jim’s family. The memories I have always bring a smile to my face. Jim “married” Kerry and I on the canoe trip.
Jim was also known as Santa to our oldest daughter; she was able to feed Santa’s reindeer in his back yard.
