Obituary of Mark Wayne Gast

Mark W. Gast, 71, of Niles, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020, at West Woods of Niles. He was born on February 25, 1949, in St Joseph, Michigan, to the late Orville and Clara (Hauch) Gast. Mark graduated from River Valley High School in 1967; he went on to enlist into the United States Navy, where he where he served honorably as a boatswain’s mate aboard the USS Little Rock from 1967 to 1971. He really loved the time he spent in the Navy. He and his wife met on a blind date while he was in the service, they were married 49 wonderful years. They had two beautiful daughters, a grandson and a great grandson which he loved with all of his heart. His passion was fishing specifically fly fishing where he would spend hours tying his own flies. He tried to go as much as he could, which was quite often. He loved to tell you about where he had fished and the best parts of the lakes. He loved family gatherings especially on the Fourth of July where he always had fireworks, a passion he shared with his grandson. He loved playing cards his favorite game being euchre. Everyone that met him really loved him and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Milisa Carlson. Mark is survived by his wife, Cathy Gast of Niles; daughter, April (Rick) Lane or Trenton, Ohio; grandson, Cory (Cassaundra) Gast of South Bend; great-grandson, Samuel; and a sister, Charlene Gast of St Joseph.
