Obituary of Levie Williams

Levie Williams, 84, of Dowagiac, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 11:30 pm at his home with his family by his side. Levie was born on July 25, 1936, to the late James Thomas and Henrietta Williams in Henning, Tennessee. As a young man, Levie moved to Chicago, Illinois where he was employed at a meat packaging company. In 1968, he moved to Dowagiac, Michigan where he worked at Du’wel, Cook Nuclear Plant, and then the lumber yard until he retired in 2012. On August 22, 1969, he married Beatrice Parker with whom God blessed their fifty-one years of marriage. Levie loved to spend time with his family and friends. He loved to barbeque and sit in his garage and listen to the blues. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Henrietta Williams; great- grandson, Ja’Ron Bonds; godchild, August Nickens; and his siblings, ML Williams, John Capers, Ronnie Williams, and Gretche Chainey. Levie is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice Williams; six children, Wendeline Williams, and James Kent Williams both of Henning, Tennessee, Christine (Jayson) Oakley of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sheresa Williams, Levie Williams Jr., and Lavone Williams all of Dowagiac, Michigan; a dear child, Alice Rolland of Dowagiac; nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, James (Deborah) Williams of Killeen, Texas, Charlet (Larry) Bufford of Newborn, Tennessee, and Geraldine (Perry) Jenkins of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Eara Berry of Niles, Michigan; brother-in-law, Jerry (Tredina) Jones of Chicago, Illinois; and a host of nieces and nephews and four godchildren, Charles Robinson, Stacey Transou, Angie (Redd) Jones, Candice Jones. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 9, 2020, at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, located at 30402 M-62, Dowagiac, Michigan, at noon with a visitation an hour prior to the service.
