Leroy Pond, 72, of Dowagiac passed away at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Michigan on Saturday, August 29, 2020. He was born in Dowagiac on August 22, 1948 to the late Delbert L. and Shirley G. (Hyatt) Pond. Leroy entered the U.S. Army after high school and served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. On June 15, 1968 Leroy married Brenda Sue Smith at a ceremony in Dowagiac. The couple celebrated forty-seven years of marriage prior to her passing in 2015. Leroy worked at Consolidated Die Cast (Contech) for many years. He also worked as an ambulance attendant and volunteer firefighter in Dowagiac for many years. He was a man of great faith and a longtime member of Victory Tabernacle in Dowagiac. Leroy enjoyed spending time outdoors and spent many days hunting and mostly fishing. Leroy cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he always had popsicles for. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Brenda; a brother, Rick Hyatt and two great-grandchildren. Leroy is survived by his three children, Sheila Williams of Dowagiac, David (Tamara) Pond of Dowagiac and Chad (Stacey) Pond of Jefferson City, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Williams, Daniel Williams, Matthew Pond, Darren Pond, Tyler Pond, Hannah Pond, Emmaline Pond, Landon Burkhart and Carson Jenkins; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mary (Al) Holliday of Vandalia, David (Shari) Pond of Cassopolis and Sandra Coons (Mike Bailey) of Cassopolis, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and countless other lives he has touched. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Paul Hodge II and Pastor Stacey Pond officiating; visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the U. S. Army and the Buchanan American Legion Post 51 at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Leroy’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project. Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.BrownFuneralHomeNiles.com.
