Obituary of Charles C. Hayes Jr.

On Monday, July 13, 2020, Charles C. Hayes Jr., loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 83. Charles was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Charles Sr. and Gladys (Darby) Hayes. Charles served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as an Insurance Broker at Liberty National in Inglewood, California, until his retirement. Charles wed the love of his life Susan on August 31st, 1965, and together they celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage. Charles will be remembered for always having a smile on his face and being the first to laugh. He was loved and cherished by everyone who knew him. Charles was a golfer, a fisherman, and a great boxer. He took great pride in looking good, all the time. Charles looked forward to trips Goodwill, always finding treasures to keep. Charles served for several years as a deacon at his church, and held a great faith in God. He was devoted to his grandchildren. Charles is survived by his wife, Susan; three children, Jonna Welker Hayes of Michigan, Sherry Hayes (Aaron) Harper of California, and Charles III (Rebecca) Hayes of Arizona; his Siblings, Rosemary Howard of Michigan, Roland Hayes of California, Fred Hayes of Michigan, Hazel Brown of Michigan and Gladys Scott of California; his 7 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; William Hayes, Lothia Hayes, Francetta Mays and Melges Hayes. Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020 in Battle Creek, Michigan. A private interment will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be rendered. Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ memory to his wife.
