Hugh E. Hatcher Sr., 57, of Niles, was called home on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Lakeland Regional Hospital in St. Joseph. He was born on July 28, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois and raised by his parents, Willie B. and Shirley J. (Hatcher) Roscoe. Hugh was a graduate of Niles High School, class of 1981. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Hugh returned to Niles where he married Pamela J. King. He worked on the assembly line for the former Tyler Refrigeration for over twenty years, prior to their closing. Hugh enjoyed outdoor activities and enjoyed friendships he made while bowling, golfing and playing softball. He cherished his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Niles. Preceding Hugh in death was his mother and a brother, Anthony Williams. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of over thirty-three years, Pamela Hatcher of Niles; his children, Candace King (Rashad Rogers) of Atlanta, Georgia, Quinton (Sonia) King of Niles and Hugh Jr. (K.C.) Hatcher of Niles; seven grandchildren, Sontee Mendoza, Quinton King Jr., Kaydence Hatcher, Carter King, Hugh E. Hatcher III, Hendrick Hatcher and Huaunna Hatcher; his sister, Bonita (Jerry) Mance of Niles; brothers, Harley (Maria) Hatcher of Michigan City, Kevin (Wendy) Hatcher of Cassopolis and Willie (Malika) Roscoe of Warsaw, Indiana. Hugh will also be missed by his Mother and Father-in-law, Abraham and Shirley Harris of Niles as well as countless other family members. Due to the current, unprecedented guidelines limiting public gatherings because of the COVID-19 virus, there will be a private family funeral at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Hugh’s family will have a brief visitation prior to the private gathering on Thursday from Noon until 1:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Due to the current restrictions those wishing to attend the visitation will be asked to abide by the no more than 10 people, abiding by state restrictions, with social distancing radius. Please use the hand sanitizer upon entering, and limit your time during visitation to allow for others to attend and express their condolences to the family as well.
