Obituary of Marcia Marie Mason

Marcia (Auntie M) Mason, 70, of Niles, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 20, 1949 in Niles to the late Lewis G. “Jerry” Mason and Barbara J. Starr. Marcia’s stepparents Mondo Bortz and Connie Mason had an important part in helping raise her. She graduated from Niles Senior High School in 1967. She furthered her education at Southwest Michigan College. She worked for several years at Garden City Fan and Electro-Voice Inc. in Buchanan. Marcia retired after spending 27 years as a Secretary for Niles High School. She was the first and only secretary for Niles New Tech. She was deeply loved and respected by the staff and students at Niles Community Schools. She was also a long-time member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles. Marcia enjoyed traveling, shopping, watching QVC, taking photos, and scrapbooking. She also loved everything Irish and the Wizard of Oz. She mostly valued her time spent with family and friends; having no children of her own, she developed a close relationship with her nieces and nephews as well as their children. She is preceded in death by her father Jerry Mason and her mother, Barbara Bortz. Marcia is survived by her siblings, Kim Meek (Denny Hyche) of Buchanan, Doug (Marie) Bortz of Niles, Mark Mason (Allison Keller) of Ft. Wayne, Michelle (Mike) Osborn of Palm Harbor, FL, Jeri (Jeff) Jones of Tarpon Springs, FL, and her Step-parents, Mondo Bortz of Niles and Connie Mason of Palm Harbor, FL. She also leaves to remember her sixteen nieces and nephews, twenty-three great-nieces and great-nephews, countless special friends, and the hundreds of lives she touched during her time at Niles Public Schools. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Committal services will take place following the funeral at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
